Safely dispose of your old medicines
Usually the time to dispose of the medicine is explained on its package (either by the expiration date or one month after opening, etc.). In OTC medicines and free samples, you will find the expiration date printed or engraved on the bottom or side of the box, as well as on the edge of the tubes of ointments and creams. It will be symbolized by the symbol (Exp.) As for medicines that do not have an expiration date and do not know the exact time of their purchase from the previous year, it is better to dispose of them.
Always remember that the way medicines are stored affects their validity and thus lose their effectiveness.
Keeping them in a hot and humid place (such as the bathroom) may make medicines lose their effectiveness even if their expiration date does not expire. This if they do not turn into toxic substances, for example, tetracycline (an antibiotic) and when it expires, it may cause serious problems to the kidneys.
Some people get rid of expired medicines by siphoning in order to ensure that their children do not poison them when they find them in the trash, but it is not recommended to do so because it may harm plants that are watered with sewage and thus harm animals and humans, respectively. In order to safely dispose of your old medicines, be sure to take the following advice when throwing medicines in the trash in order to protect your children from poisoning with them:
Dispose of all medicines in their original containers, and make sure that the containers are tightly closed and do not scatter the tablets.
Put liquid medicine bottles in which there is a quantity of medicine in plastic bags and tie them well so that the medicine does not leak out if the bottle is broken.
Put all medication in a sealed waste container.
Hurry up disposing of the contents of the trash containing the medicines in the house to the other ones on the street to be emptied by the cleaners.
